A group of senior North East construction and property industry professionals have come together to launch a regional arm of national networking initiative, Interact.
Aimed at creating business opportunities through bringing together like-minded experts in a social environment, the group, first established in 1977, now offers structured networking in 25 locations.
Interact Newcastle, which is open to senior construction and property industry personnel right across the North East, is chaired by Martin Westgate, director at Robertson, with Tony Harmieson, director at B3 Architects, acting as vice chairman.
Other organisations already involved include Riley Consulting, 3E Consulting Engineers, JK Property Consultants and RMT Accountants & Business Advisers, who will be providing advice to members on issues like tax planning and raising finance for the construction and property sectors.
Westgate said: “Interact Newcastle is something that has been set up to support the region’s leading property professionals in generating work and attracting inward investment to the North East, and we’re confident that it will be just as successful as it has been elsewhere in the country.
“Developing strong personal relationships is obviously crucial in identifying, addressing and securing new commercial opportunities, and our aim is to grow the group’s core members as quickly as we can over the coming months.
“Our construction industry has clearly been through some difficult times in recent years, but it has an enduringly important position within the regional economy, and Interact Newcastle aims to support its continuing contribution to the North East’s overall economic recovery.”
Matthew Flinders from RMT Accountants & Business Advisors added: “Interact provides a structured forum for high level industry networking that has been designed with specific purposes and outcomes in mind, and gives participants access to events, expertise and new opportunities on a local, regional and national level.
“We have a strong founding membership, and have ambitions to involve as wide a cross-section of the regional construction sector as we can.”
