A Gosforth-based accountancy firm is raising a glass to South Northumberland Cricket Club’s 150th anniversary by signing up as the sponsor of its forthcoming inaugural beer festival.
RMT Accountants & Business Advisors is backing the three-day event, which begins on Friday 20 June, as part of their own 60th anniversary celebrations.
A selection of over 40 beers, ciders and wines will be available over the weekend, with a range of food and entertainment also on offer, as well as a full calendar of cricket for visitors to watch on Friday evening and during the during the days of Saturday and Sunday.
Founded in 1864, ‘South North’ moved to its present ground behind Gosforth High Street in 1892, with the club members purchasing the freehold to the ground in 1923 for the princely sum of £5,500.
The club will be hosting current County Champions Durham in a Royal London One-Day match against Warwickshire CCC on Thursday 31 July as the centrepiece of their anniversary celebrations, as well as a game featuring the touring Sri Lanka A team on Friday 18 July.
Matthew Flinders, marketing manager at RMT, says: “As a long-standing near neighbour of South North, we thought sponsoring the beer festival would be an ideal way for us to give something back to our local community, as well as a great opportunity to mark our own anniversary.
We’re very pleased to be backing what will is sure to be an excellent event, and hope the sun shines right through the weekend.”
“It is great to see a local professional services business like RMT supporting their local cricket club. South Northumberland Cricket Club shares many of the same values as RMT…and we also enjoy cricket and socialising. So it’s the perfect partnership.
The inaugural South Northumberland Cricket Club Beer Festival is only one of the events we have planned to mark our 150th anniversary celebrations and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of RMT, our members and local residents who we hope will come along and support the festival and the club this year”, said Ben Jones Lee, Director South Northumberland Cricket Club.
Tickets for the South Northumberland Cricket Club Beer Festival can be purchased from 1st June from the reception of South Northumberland Cricket Club.
